This review explores the effectiveness of Mantra-Based Meditation (MBM) in enhancing emotional stability, reducing anxiety, and improving quality of life (QoL). Drawing on evidence from randomized controlled trials (RCTs), meta-analyses, and observational studies published over the past decade, the review synthesizes findings across diverse populations, including students, veterans, healthcare workers, and individuals with chronic conditions. Key mantra practices examined include Gayatri Mantra Meditation (GMM), OM chanting, and structured mantra repetition programs. The literature indicates that MBM activates the parasympathetic nervous system, enhances mindfulness, and promotes emotional regulation, leading to significant reductions in stress, anxiety, and depressive symptoms. Additional benefits include improvements in psychological capital, attentional control, and sleep quality. However, some studies yield mixed or inconclusive results, particularly when comparing MBM with mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) or cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). This review underscores the potential of mantra chanting as a low-cost, non-pharmacological approach to fostering psychological well-being. It also calls for further research employing standardized methodologies and long-term follow-ups to strengthen the evidence base. Overall, MBM emerges as a promising intervention for mental health enhancement and holistic well-being.
